    Hey all,

its been so long since i have posted and getting into the swing of halloween. After my mother passed in 2010, i just didnt feel like doing anything since.
well i am back to reading the forums and starting up what is hopefully going to be a great 2012 halloween season.

For my first prop this year, i want to make a skeleton/robotic prop replica from the movie Virus. for people who havent seen the movie, its great, stars jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland.

well there is one particular part where one of the robotic/human monstrosities head breaks open, and a skeleton pops up and long metal calws come out of the head.
Well i want to make this! the only change i will do is put a camera lens for one of the eyes, because i thought it was so cool and creative with other monsters in the movie to have at least one camera lens for an eye.

the only problem i see is getting machined metal for the claws on the side of the head. this is also going to be animatronic, MAYBE pop out of one of my 55 barrel drums. Im thinking i can make the claws move when it pops up, and the camera lens aperature will close and open with a small servo, so the light behind it will dim and brighten.

Stay tuned as i start posting pictures of my progress. Right now its in deep planning phase.

    thanks. Its been tough.
she loved halloween. when i first got ambitious with building a 3 axis skull and buying skeletons and wood for my half pirate ship, she thought i was nuts.
when it was finally finished and working, she came home from a doctors appointment on halloween morning, and my display was on the lawn running and working.
she came in and cried, because she was so proud of me that i was able to build something so awesome. my shed is filled to the top of halloween stuff. everytime i went in there, i thought of her and her happness she recieved from my props and display, so the last 2 halloweens were tough.

this year im going to probably scrap the whole pirate theme and stick to traditional haunted house, creepy skeletons and whatnot.

I am sorry for your loss, I lost my father in May and one of my sister just a few weeks ago. I love the movie VIRUS. The cool thing about it, you can almost make zombies/borgs easily if you find cheap electronics at the pawn stores or even check the "free" catogory on Kijiji (in Canada, not sure US). Like mentionned , keep us posted. I am doing SILENT HILL, plan to start on Pyramid Head this weekend.

PS: I wonder if you can hotglue electronics to a Foam head, with paint and touch up, or even a cheap skull, break a bit of it, and glue some electronics on it.
Don't forget to check my vids on youtube!

If your claws don't have to be metal, check out STILTBEAST STUDIOS u-tube tutorial on "weapons" making. You should find it interesting. HM
You said you wanna what? with who? I don't think so!
