I saw this the other day. We are building one this year for one of our haunts, but I wish there was more information available on how this was done.

Looks like the size of the object projected would be pretty limited. And if doing outside if there's any wind it's going to disrupt it considerably.

says its pretty easy to do.
diy vapor display made from a humidifier, 10 computer fans and a couple hundred drinking straws. Humidifier output is routed out a central channel of straws. the computer fans are placed under two banks of straws on either side to create a buffering stream of air around the water vapor stream. projector is 4000 lumen, and the display is visible in a sunlit room. Cost is inexpensive, except for the projector, and most parts can be salvaged.

I saw that. I understand the basic idea behind it, but nothing goes that easy. i was hoping to see some internal pictures, or maybe get some tips on building. I was going to email him on youtube, but now that they re-did the site I can't figure out how.

I made an 8 foot version of this unit but used a fog machine as the vapor source. The thread is on the forum if you search under fogscreen. Used it outdoors and even with 2-3mph winds the image was hardly affected. I'd strongly suggest buying honeycomb for a larger unit because the straws will eat up the majority of your efforts and build time. I researched his design originally and it's very simple and well done as long as you only need a small display and can find the esoteric plumbing parts. Search google for DIY heliodisplay for a person who has the build photos. Hope this helps
