My first attempt at a pair of kicking legs has stalled in the beginning stages. I used a motor purchased at Princess Auto. First off it is way too fast as a guess maybe 80RPM. So what I am asking I guess is How would I slow this down? its 12vdc and works with 2 wires only. I was thinking of a resistor in the circuit but I didn't want to worry about the excess heat a resistor would cause. and would a resistor cause the amps to grow too high for my motor? Is there a better motor out there maybe with a speed controller or something...

Change the voltage from 12 to 5 and that should slow it down a lot. Another thing that might help is to reverse the wiring sometime a motor will run faster going one way than the other. If you can't switch out the voltage try adding a blinker fuse into the line and it will slow the rotation down but it will also give you a stop and go.

This is a blinker and it's simple to wire up. Run either your positive or negative from your power supply to one of the post on the fuse....then a jumper wire from the other post to one of the wires on your motor

I think I payed 20 bucks for the motor I had to adapt the shaft to what I wanted by cutting it approx in half and welding a bolt to it. There was 2 styles to choose from at the Kingston store.

I use this DC Motor controller to slow down wiper motors. It's a PWM type so your motor retains all of its torque at any speed. Small enough to fit inside a computer supply box.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be...

You could use the PicoVolt controller from FrightProps. It also uses PWM to control the motor, but can also reverse the direction of the motor and record a sequence.
