Scents and Sensibility: using aromas / fog scent additives in a yard haunt?

Does anyone here use scents in their yard haunts? e.g. fluid scent additives for fog juice, scent cups and distribution boxes, etc? Our haunt is just an outdoors yard haunt. Would it make the most sense to use fog juice additives since we fog the lawn / entrance way to our door for TOTs?

If you use scents in your yard haunts:

    * What products / scent-types did you use and why?
    * Where did you purchase them / who has the best prices?
    * Have any really "wow'ed" you?
    * Are there any you thought were a complete waste of money?

Seems like the best bang for the buck with these things would be for an indoor haunt. But that's not my application.

I'm being asked by my family to add additional items to my Christmas list and figured this might be something I wouldn't think of buying for myself (e.g. good elegibility for an adult's Christmas list).

MonsterGuts.com seems to sell some of this. Their own brand? Then I've heard of Sinister Scents. But that may be too expensive.

Looking for scent items ~$25 to $35 or less. Nothing too elaborate for expensive.

Earlier in the year this become a great topic & after looking at only a couple suppliers & prices, decided to go with the home-made version discussed with water based Fragrance oils..... ( NOT essential oils )
I found a good dealer on EBay to test that sells 1/2 ounce bottles for $2.99 + non inflated shipping. I would like to add that Marci of Bulkoils.com ( http://www.bulkoils.com/category.aspx?categoryID=119 ) was great to deal with on EBay & off on her reg online store & was quickly shipped. I ordered a few, as I was doing a circus theme & used "cotton candy" & "hot buttered popcorn", 1 in a fogger & the other a home made spray mister. Between the 2 people / ToTers commented on the 2 scents that really made them feel there was popcorn & cotton candy being served,......LoL .

Yes these were an indoor haunt i used them in, but I did buy a couple other scents & made my own custom concoctions, graveyard & swamp-ish smells for a couple friends for they're outside haunts in they're foggers & they had a lot of ToTers comment on the realistically horrid dead body smell in my one friends graveyard & a wet marshy smell at my other friends swamp haunt.......

I made a home made fan style distribution thingy, but for outdoors, doesn't work, indoors great ! Outside best, the fogger-awesome !!
I flushed out my fogger's when all done with Halloween & will see how they work this summer's pre Hallo-testing for pump life...LoL

I really feel that I am happier with the way I went with Bulkoil's 1/2 ounce bottles of Fragrance water based oils in my foggers, home made fan and sprayer's & plan on using fragrance oil smells in my haunts from now on !! As do my friends now that they know about it....LoL... rather than ordering the more expensive smell packs from a vendor.....

& I only used 2/3rd's of both bottles ( probably used more than I needed to being 1st time, last minute thing ) I had cotton candy in fogger & buttered popcorn in sprayer system & was very present in scent ( as Marci's oils did not seemed "watered down" ). & I did 2 haunts, 2 nites the weekend before Halloween & Fri-Mon Halloween weekend & only refilled the 400 watt fogger once after the 1st time & lasted thru both haunts !
When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I haven't used scents myself yet, but I did a lot of research to prepare for next year (2012 goal: fog - dense, low, scented fog). A lot of people seem to love Froggys Scent Additives, as well as their fog juice itself.

After reading through forums and tons of reviews, many people have recommended mixing "Swampy Marsh" and "Gothic" for a perfect graveyard scent. As long as it isn't too windy and all your fog doesn't blow away in the opposite direction, you should be able to smell these additives strongly outdoors. It will probably be a few months before I order my new powerful fogger, low-lying juice and scent additives, but I'll let you know how I like them!

I hope this is not changing the subject......
Does anyone know how Disney does the smell on demand in their 3-D shows? Mickey's philharmonic show.....Mickey or Goofy...(cant remember which) is baking a pie on screen then all of a sudden you smell apple pie cooking. Then the smell fades away..... I would assume they use air pressure going to a valve that is feeding a filter with the scent added?? If anyone knows how this works PLEASE share !!!

I would like to reignite this conversation with a little help from everyone. I too am very interested in using a scent additive to my fog this year. I believe I can create a better overall experience with the additon of a noticable smell in my outdoor haunt.

I would like to learn more about other peoples experiences with the scents from Froggys. (and in making thei rown formulas) A few that caught my attention were Swampy March, Haunted House, Gunsmoke/Cannon Ball, Gothic, Chaired Corpse, Swampy/Gothic mix.

Halloween Scream, did you order your scents yet?

I've been using Froggy's Swampy Marsh & their Campfire in my graveyard for the past couple of years events. To preface what I think of their scents, I have to relay a small story first. Although I had ordered the pre-scented Freezin Fog juice, there was a slight boo boo, and they shipped unscented which arrived 3 days before Halloween. Upon discovering the mistake, I quickly emailed them well after business hours, and Adam Pogue called me back within about 20 minutes. He apologized profusely, and he promptly offered to overnight the scent vials. I received them on Friday, the morning of Halloween. You really cannot ask for better customer service imo, they are great!

As to the performance of the scents, they are quite good, but I may not be the best one to ask, because I mixed mine nearly double the recommended strength. The Swampy Marsh version; I had to tone down a bit, because it's smells a little too sweet imo, and it's a slight bit cloying to me at that ratio. But, my sinuses are a little sensitive with respect to strong colognes, perfumes, and the like that some people slather wholesale on themselves. So take that as you will. I will be ordering more this year, as I'm treading very close to being out atm. So when I do, I'll report back again.

I purchased Charred Corpse and Cannonball from FF for use in an indoor haunt and my yard haunt.

The Charred Corpse scent was used indoors and really wreaked (but in a good way). One actor called it a "charred human bacon" smell, and another actor (not knowing we were using a scent additive) showed up on day two with a bottle of citrus air freshener to "help clean the air". When mixed as directed, this scent worked well, but by the end of the season, most actors in the area were sick of smelling it, which I take as a good sign.

I used the Cannonball scent additive in my yard haunt outdoors, but when mixed as directed, it was very difficult to discern the smell unless you got up close to the faux cannons.

At the end of the season, I cleaned out the fog machines using FF's recommended cleaning method, but two machines that used the scent additives mysteriously died on me, granted they were cheap machines.

I plan on using the same scents this year, but I hope the fog machines don't become damaged.

If you do decide on purchasing a scent additive, I suggest going through Froggy's Fog. Their customer service is top-notch!

I used both a fog and spray scent last year. I LOVE the spray. You can put it on just about anything and it really lasts. Both my fog machines quit last Halloween after about 2 hours of use. Plus I didn't think it was very powerful in comparison to the spray.

The biggest scent success is just using a cheap good housekeeping tart warmer in my garage haunt. Granted, I can't get a slaughterhouse scent, but two years ago I did a carnival theme and the candy scents worked great. Last year I used it my conservatory scene behind fake flowers. I get the greatest comments on the tart scents.
