Need some assistance from the good folks at the Halloween Forum. I am creating a zombie baby doll prop and need to glaze or cloud over the doll's plastic eyes. How best can I accomplish it?

Some light grit sandpaper, works great.

Just take a small square of it and just start rubbing away.

If you need to turn it back to glossy, just paint on some acetone (nail polish remover) and you are back in business.

If they're static, you can also try a thinned down model paint. For moving eyes or eyelids, try washing them with a touch of paint thinner (not too much, it'll eat the plastic). This gives the "natural" dead look. If you're zombifying your doll, remove the eyes and gently remove the color from the back. Try mixing white with light blue and light green until you get the color you want and then replace the eyes.

Edited to add; use a paper towel instead of a brush when doing the wash.

Coat them with Krylon matte clear finish, followed by a coat of 2 part clear epoxy brushed on (to bring the wet look back to the hazy eye).

    Great question!

Chop, you are one of the best painters I've seen. Do you get the hazy look using the method you described?

How about some white (elmer's) glue diluted with water?

I used undiluted Elmer's wood glue, which worked great. I put a blob of it on a piece of scrap foam board and microwaved it for 15 secs to improve the flow, then applied w/ a small paintbrush.

Gave a good haze with slightly "swelled" look, which was just what I was hoping for.

Thanks Grim! although I still consider my self a student, I do appreciate it! Yes, I start with a white eye, airbrush in a soft edged pupil in grey, then finish with those steps...it works for me!

I guess we are all students to some degree. Some of us (i.e. me) are in kindergarten, while others (i.e. you, Lauriebeast, and many other amazing talents) are graduate students.
