Looks like Halloween Nut has the best solution for you, above. ^ I know what you mean though, about the open source, it's pretty pricey for the Adobe programs (or other Pro level software). I have the CS 5.5 Master Collection myself. That takes a good bit out of the budget, to be sure.
I'm on a Win (dual booting w/ Linux Debian) platform too, and I am no Apple fan. Even I have to admit that Final Cut Pro is/was a very good production program though. Tbh, their (Apple's) treatment of customers is insulting (and I'm not talking customer service, but locking down an o/s like all users/power users are incapable of making intelligent decisions). But that, is a whole different topic.

Perfect, thanks! Really like the job you did on this. The quicker transitions help in a home haunt application. Disney can have the transitions move so slowly because they've got a captive audience waiting. Although I can't recall if they really are that slow at the Haunted Mansion.

Ok, well I have completed the new HD version and I also flipped it horizontally but understand that you are not going to be able to blow it up to a 40” monitor. The images I have are not detailed enough to go that large but, with that being said I rendered it on a 25” monitor and it looks “ok”. Because this is a HD version and Disney owns the images I do not want to put it on YouTube, if you want a copy please PM me with your email address and I will forward you the file.

Hi Guys,
Halloween Nut pointed me at this thread earlier today ... Just letting you all know we will have SEVERAL products very soon that 'should' fit the criteria to what you are all talking about here. I promise.
I can't go into tremendous detail ... but I will tell you this ... the new product lineup for this new year (2012) is gonna knock your socks off. Very very scary.
Stay tuned.

Apple would have never grown to the industry powerhouse that the rest of the world emulates if they were forced to make the OS compatible with every PC box built. They would have been just another Microsoft — lagging behind by about 3 - 5 years. I'm sure everyone wants the iPhone's iOS on every cheap phone out there, too. The software and hardware are produced together — otherwise the other element is always playing catch up. It's not like printer companies that put chips on their ink tanks to force you to buy their products. Also, every Mac I've owned since 1992 has been good for at least 5 years in terms of evolution — some longer. They are built that well.
The video project being discussed would work great in iMovie — which comes free with Macs, and again is the standard others try to emulate. I have also done morphing and masking on Mac shareware that honestly seems a cut above what many people seem to have available. Some examples:
Redid morphing sequence of Gracey for a cleaner image on a still shot from DHM:
Inserted Leota's image into a still of the set and added real candle flame for cleaner image:
Rebuilt "Disney Halloween Treat" intro with remastered footage using iMovie, cleaned up audio from original VHS source using shareware:
You can always get by with cheaper, but you get what you pay for. I understand some want open-source or free. My guess is everyone would be a lot more efficient and creative if given the chance to work on a Mac.
