I can't decide which theme I want for next year. Here are the narrowed down choices:
    1) carnival gone wrong(carnival games with the halloween theme, fun house, evil clowns, freak show etc.)
    or
    2) tribute to the movies ( different scenes from the horror movies, the well from The ring, Jason and Freddie, the birds, arachaphobia etc)

I can not decide which one I should do so I thought I would ask the opinion from my halloween family.

Help me please. In a little over four weeks I will begin my building.

I love both theme ideas! Is this theme for a party or just for your haunt? For a party, I think a younger crowd (not just kids, but younger adults who might not know all of the references) would love the carnival theme, and a slightly "wiser" group would appreciate the movie tribute. If this is for trick-or-treaters, then I definitely vote for carnival gone wrong.

Go with the Carnival. That's my fav theme and everybody is scared of clowns to a degree.

Carny is my personal choice & I have a ton of Twisted Carny music & sound effects you can use, but i would consider which theme you feel that you could best pull off with prop builds, scenes & costs.......( & how well your money tree in the back yard will allow you to "harvest" from it...LoL )

Carny theme - you have a lot of info & examples to draw on from what a lot of our carny haunts we did this year. The Movie theme would be cool too & would be a nice challenge also to be creative with choosing & building each scene...... I really think it's more towards how you feel you which one you want to tackle ! Either one, we'll be eager to see what you come up with

Essentially took the words right out of my mouth! I couldn't have put it any better myself. My first instinct is to go with the carnival, but it really depends on your target audience. In my circle there aren't that many that would appreciate the less than obvious movie references, but all would enjoy the carnival! I've stayed away from the whole carnival idea myself simply because I know I wouldn't be able to resist adding actual carnival games for people to play. This would take an already intense build and make it that much more of a monster, beating me over the head with a giant squeaky clown hammer! Clowns are awesome, and yes, there are so many people with at least a little phobia of them! Exploit it to the utmost!
