I saw the animated jumping spider online and thought that it could possibly work as a pop-up prop. I was thinking of taking the spider off and attaching a foam-filled clown to the mechanism. Is the moter strong enough to hold a foam-filled prop? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wow, cool idea but I don't know and sure someone who works with props like this (other than buys them like me) would be in a better position to answer. I have the prop and have to saw that the spider is very light weight and there's not much to it. Don't know what kind of foam you are thinking of but I know even Great Foam can have some weight to it depending on the mass of it. I would think if the clown head was styrofoam (the white kind) and the body just wire framed with very lightweight clothing on it, it might work. Are you thinking of this for a jack-in-the-box type prop?

I was thinking of putting the clown in an old wheel chair that I have. I would probably have to take the back of the wheel chair off. It would look like it's just sitting there and then it would suddenly pop up.

I think seeing the setup video for the prop could help you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB_FQ...eature=related
That shows the base and the mechanisms involved.
I think for the cost you could probably get a pop up prop-moter setup for the same price that would lift far more. The spider looks to be very light weight and while it pops up fast it does't go very far. I don't think the spider pop up would work for what you are thinking of doing. Plus those spiders are pretty scarce now. They were a huge seller.
