Hello all!
Had a fun year and like a lot of our fellow haunters opted to go with a Pirate theme this year! I've loved The Pirates of the Caribbean ever since I can remember and to this day is one of my all time favorite rides at Disneyland. I love anything Pirate related. For a better part of six months I slowly concocted my Pirate themed props and this is what I came up with for Halloween night. (The Pirates all have a corner of the living room devoted to them in the corner of my house, so I get to enjoy them year round, whooo hooooo!)
Here is what they look like in my living room (The picture was taken a few days prior to Halloween, so the barrel prop wasn't 100% finished, but I dare say I have one of the coolest living rooms out of all my friends!)
Here is what it looked like on Halloween night outside my home!
I only had 32 trick or treaters, so that was the saddest part of my night, but I still had a good time. Captain Jack was controlled with a scary terry servo as was the Pirate in the Gibbet post! The barrel pirate had a water pump hooked up his arm and ran awesome all night! I made about fifty of the East India Trading company sacks to decorate with and use as trick or treat bags which was a cool additionI have some night time video of the props, but it is horrible because my camera sucks at night! I have some more pictures on my blog, http://www.thedismaltrader.com and some of the props being constructed!
Can't wait to look at everyones albums. Very happy to see that Pirates were in full force this year! My stuff pales in comparison to a lot of the stuff I've seen on this forum, but each year its getting better! Hope everyone had a safe Halloween!

That looks awesome! I so need to do a pirate theme. Too many cool things you can do with them.
Americans sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Very cool! My wife wants to do pirates next year, I tend to prefer the darker aspect of this halloween...insane decorator on steroids stuff and pirates is obviously a more whimsical, fun way to go, but maybe thats what I need! Again, very cool, great job!

Thanks for all the kind words!
I do find Pirates to be more whimsical than other themes, but I guess that is part of the joy! I've always loved the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland as a kid and I'm still blown away to this day! Haunted Mansion may be down the road in a few years, I'd love a Madame Leota crystal ball! Pirates came about this year because I built the Captains wheel to go in the corner of my living room! The other two Pirates kinda just fit in and now are proudly in the corner of my room for all to see!
I do enjoy the darker side of Halloween too, but try and keep the displays lacking blood and gore if I can to appease everyone. I do use Halloween as an excuse to keep up Ouija boards and my full size toe pincher coffin which I made for an art supply cabinet in my bedroom, so people don't think I'm weird, haha! I don't find Ouija boards offensive, but I'm suprised at how many people are appalled by them!
Next year I think I'm going to stay on the Pirate theme, but I want to do a small facade and some cannons that work!
