I want to thank all here for ideas and the inspiration to put on a yard haunt.. this is my 7th year of putting one on...
each year I haunted before this one, I battled my HOA, as it wasn't deemed a true holiday so they would threaten and fine me for my displays... this year it all changed as I had enough support of the whole housing community as they started decorating for the holiday as well...
this year they gave out an award for best decorated yard.. and I took first place...
I have to say alot of your creative ideas and how to's came forth here to help in this award.. The crypt recieved just over 700 visitors that halloween night.. they started coming at 5 pm and the last one was at 10:30 pm..
I had a crew of 20 helpers from my street to help keep order and the crowds moving... some even acted and played parts to keep the line of toters entertained during the wait.
We had to post a gate keepr to give the props a break and to add to the thrill
my 14 ft Scare crow made from a broken tree limb, garden hose hit by a mower, and some corpsing ideas found here.
Standing in line to go thru graveyard and crypt.
Even the Adults had fun and posed with some of my props..
View from my Scarecrow back towards the gates
we had an actor hidden in a room dressed in black with a camera on his face,, he could see and hear the people out side as we had a camera and mic mounted. so he would entertain and joke with the crowds as they came by. his head was projected up onto a peice of plexiglass in the window.. He was a crowd favorite
Path to the candy bowl... had several surprises in the form of pop up props...
entrance into the crypt, strobe lights, moaning souls, and alot of sticky webs.. people said it was a great effect as it disorintated them and made their skin tingle.
lost in the fog, and scared to go into the crypt....
Whoops,, now whos ballooens got in the way of the street light??? (thanks to the forum for the ideas on how to combat a bright street light)
Toter's posing with my guilotine
Brave souls as they enter the crypt
gotta love when the boyfriend runs away and leaves his girl in the crypt for the lost souls..
One of my Crypt actors coming out to take a break, her job was to extend a hand out of an image the projected on the wall as the people were looking at it... She had a ton of screams>>> she took some good video that i will post a link to once I get it on Youtube..
A witch who helped entertain the peoiple in the lines... (she was a Fathter favorite..)
There a ton more of pictures,, but i won't bore you... but thank you all as you ideas helped in getting this award.. this forum rocks!!!

Dude.
You need a big fat mausoleum with a monster inside trying to escape. Holy crap, you'd get people FLYING outta there.

Like what you did to the street light. We have one across the street that washes out alot of our lighting. Now you gave us an option. Did it block alot of the light? How about using black balloons? How did you get it into position? Thanks!

Very impressive, and nice to see the HOA take a bow to your popularity! Congrats on first place too! Well deserved!

Congrats on the win (and on putting the HOA in its place
.) Certainly looks like everyone had a lot of fun.

Woot! Now that's a way to win over your adversaries - do it so good they actually give you the top award. Great looking haunt!
