I bought a large piece of plexi-glass to do that floating head effect. Problem is, it's thin and very flexible. I can't hang it from our ceiling. I was thinking of making a frame out of wood. I am wondering if anyone has done this before with wood or recommends another framing material. I have the tools to cut wood nicely and groove it and all that..just wondering if that is a good idea or if it won't help?

    Thank you.

I did it a few years ago with aluminum channel, but there's no reason why wood wouldn't work. I had mine set up in a window & the plexi was wider than the window so you couldn't see the frame. Worked well.

Anything rigid will work, wood or aluminum channel. I also used the aluminum when I did mine a few years ago. I had some sitting around in my shop for a FCG that I hadn't built yet. Cuts nice and quick with a hacksaw.

I am not sure where to get something so rigid like aluminum. However, another thread talks about the Pepper Ghost effect. They use a wood frame or PVC frame, and use this $2 window film of some sort that when stretched gives a reflective surface. I am wondering if I can do that and return this rather expensive piece of plexi-glass? My concern is even if I get the plexiglass to work.. after tonight I have to store it for a year and it's quite large. It will probably get scratched (although I would try to find something to cover it). Do you think the $2 window stuff over a frame would work almost as well for this floating head effect?

They sell it a Home Depot, Lowe's and most Hardware stores.

As for the Pepper's effect I've seen many here post that the window plastic works. I can't say as I've only done it with the plexiglass.
