I had HGTV on this afternoon in the background and there was an episode of Design on a Dime airing, "From Bland To Brilliant Backyard". The family likes to watch movies outdoors during the summer and so they built them a large canvas screen and coated it with a projector screen paint. I had never heard of projector screen paint so did a search for it. Here's one link I came up with and thought I would share, plenty of other links out there. Might be something to look into for projecting haunt images in your yard. The HGTV program said you could get the specialized paint online for about $50/quart.

Curious if anyone has used this kind of paint and how you would rate the results.

I used Behr Silverscreen for the screen in my rumpus room - it looks fantastic & cost way less than $50 a quart. If you're wanting a good home made screen, check out AVS forums. They have a forum just for DIY projection screens.

From what I read back when I was looking at paints.. depending on your projector, a flat light gray bordered with black is the best way to go and can be done with $5 or so in paint. The more expensive stuff might provide a 2:1 gain if needed.. so it depends on your projector, screen size, throw distance and all that stuff. If you got the money, get the good stuff.. if you're looking for as cheap as possible yet still pretty good results, the flat gray or some sort with black border to handle contrast is the way to go. But, like the other guy said, check out AVS forums, they have a ton of experts there.

I recently ordered the Spiders, Snakes and Bats DVD from John Hyer and may incorporate it next year into my haunt. The paint might come in handy depending on the set up I do. Appreciate the feedback.
