This prop was a concept for 2010, and was a huge hit. It consists of a Graveyard pedestal, gargoyle, and wings (which were fashioned from a beach umbrella, which had hit the end of its life).
The pedestal is made from wood & foam, the gargoyle is a static prop (with glowing eyes during the scare), and the wings are driven by a pnuematic cylinder, buried in the pedestal). It took a fair amount of rigging to get it right, but it works really well. The sound and light sequence that accompany the "scare" are controlled by a Picoboo, from Fright Props, but the wings are controlled by a simple electrical on-off switch, which controls the servo.
A full run of my 2010 haunt is found HERE, and includes the Gargoyle in action.
My best pal, who is a scary guy in his own right, talked me into bringing this prop out again this year - he loved it. My wife is amused at the whole thing, and tolerates it all pretty well.
Here it is for your enjoyment, and comment.

Definitly a must have "Gargoyle's"...Im not any way and "handyman" so Im afraid I will be buying some type of gargoyle. Unless you have instructions of how one would make one w/o the animatronics :-)
thanks

Oggey, it's really fairly simple, the only moving part are the wings, and they open like an umbrella does, being pushed up by a pnuematic cylinder. I had to get smart on pnuematics to make this work, and had no "air" experience, until this project. But it's not that hard, wth some determination, time, and maybe some good advice from your friends, you can do it.
Anything custom can require some trial and error, for sure.

Screamingskull, I LOVE the wings. From an old umbrella....the look couldn't be better! And that brick wall aka secret door is super cool, too! Fantastic job!!!!
