I[FONT=Comic Sans MS] made up my Fireplace mantle and the rest of my house,,, made many potions in odd bottles, using black light paints so they would glow bright in the blacklight atmosphere. which they do quite well!!
now my question is:::::::
why is it when I take a photo, no matter what the exposure time , all the potions don't show up glowing???
and camera experts out there who can give me a tip.. I am using a Sony A55vl DLSR with a Sony DT 18-55mm lens [/FONT
4 second exposure
5 second exposure
and a 5.5 second exposure
Please help as it looks awesome in person, and I want to send it to friends in other states so they can see the effect..

The photos aren't showing up for me. You will probably need to use an even longer exposure, with the camera on a tripod (or sitting on something stable). The shutter speed isn't the only factor in photos like this; aperature is also important. You would want to use the largest aperature (lowest number numerically) possible that will still allow everything in focus.

okay lets try this for them to be visible
http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/DSC04343.jpg
the black effects make everything glow with an Eire pulsing effect. but when I take the photo, the skulls spider webs ahow real well,,, but the potions just go black..
I am not using a flash.(that would ruin the effect)
I am on a tripod.
let me know if you can see then through this link... I has me completely puzzled why they go black...
I am an amateur photographer, and like to do all my setting in manual for my effects... (i hate using photoshop to edit a photo,, for me that means I took a bad one lol)

I can see that one.
The webs do glow great so you're taking the photos right; the bottles just aren't glowing enough to show up. I think you need to use an even longer shutter speed but then you run the risk of the webs becoming ridiculously bright. When I've taken Christmas decoration photos the white tends to drown out all the other colors. That may not happen though since this light isn't really that bright.
Try a longer shutter speed and see what that does. I'll pull out some of my fluorescent stuff tonight and play with it to see if I can come up with some better advice for you.

Thank you... it is so odd cause to the naked eye the bottle glow more then the webs... but in the photo.. it's like they are not even there..
Please help your my only hope...(wow Wasn't that a star wars quote?)
I am using "Palmer Prism Fluorescent Tempera Paint" they are clear glass bottles from Hobby Lobby... the white small skulls are painted with it to so they glow white and you can see that works..
I am about to try Mythbusters..
