Looks like one of my local grocery stores here in NC sells dry ice. How can I store dry ice safely? Can it be stored in a regular household freezer? Or does it need to be stored in some sort of a vented container? Would like to experiment with generating fog out of a giant plastic skull I bought from Walgreens. Would be nice to buy the dry ice whenever it's convenient, then experiment later.

Use a styrofoam ice chest. If you put it in the freezer, it will shut down your refrigerator. The sensor in the freezer will think it's really cold in there and won't let the compressor start. I've had things shipped to me packed with dry ice and and the styro container didn't have any venting, so I think it's not needed, as long as the container isn't sealed airtight.
I...have many names...
