I've installed my haunted shack and things are going okay but in terms of the front facade, I'm a bit stuck. Right now it looks like a boring plywood facade, and I was hoping people might have some thoughts on cheap ways to age/distress it so it fits with the rest of the house. Ideas I've thought about already is a thick monster mud application and cutting a brick pattern into it... (but I'm not sure I have enough drywall compound left) Staining it a dark brown and adding random junk wood on top, simply painting it black etc... but I feel like I'm missing something with these ideas. Anyone got a suggestion?

Monster mud applied directly to OSB will cause the wood to swell, and possibly crack and knock off the monster mud.... might be the look you were hoping for if you went back and blackened in the holes.
Undead and loving it!

I wasn't aware of the swelling issue, thanks for the heads up. Since the facade is at least partially holding the structure together, I think I'd better not crack it too much.

Hopefully this one is easier to see.

This is with monster mud and this picure is the second year I used this structure. No problems with the mud and it actually helped to preserve the osb. Bear in mind, this was taken down and stored outside for a year unprotected.Last edited by chili; 10-25-2011 at 09:58 AM. Reason: added text

Thanks, that does look pretty good. Did you apply it with a putty knife to get it smooth?

I have a similar facade on my mausoleum. I decided that just having an epitaph would look too plain, so I sliced a foam skull in half and hotglued it on over the doorway. In your case, I would suggest a skull and crossbones and then paint the whole thing to look like stone/brick.

It only looks smooth. I applied it with a texture gun, it's more of an orange peel.

You could do a large skull and bones out front and have the inside be more like a cave or tunnel with the wall cluttered with as many skulls and bones as possible attached to the walls and ceiling.
