Last year I decided to make a video for the front room of my haunt. That would introduce everybody to the haunt and give the background info for the haunt and the rules. This video would be played through an old looking computer, the computer I. Have been useing dosnt have a dvd drive or media player so I decided to a monitor cable and run the video from the control room off of my laptop, the video played fine but the problem I ran into was I put a headphone onto a stereo speaker and plug into the head phone jack on my laptop and it was very low. What I am trying to figure out is how do I increase the sound out cheaply or would I be better of using my speakers for my laptop with a longer jumper cable from the laptop to the front room

Use longer cable from the laptop to speakers set in the scene itself. All you need is longer cable. Radio shack will have that. And you should run the cable from the line-out jack in the laptop, not the headphone out. Good luck.

you can always get a cheap pair of decent powered pc speakers. That sounds like what you need. The power that is put out of a headphone jack is very low. Great for headphones, not so great for standalone speakers.

I use power computer speakers for my props. I purchase them on Craigs list for under $10.00. I wrape them up in plastic bags so the rain doesn't destroy them and they work great.

Another option is that if you have an amp (aka receiver), you can run from your source to the amp to the speakers. Last year I ran iPod to receiver to speakers, and it worked great.
