After six weeks of waiting, I received delivery of Grandin Road's Venetian Victoria yesterday the 19th of October. While I was delighted to finally get my hands on her, directly underneath that feeling was pretty severe annoyance at how she is constructed.

*She does seem to be wearing a full wig: however STILL the front third of the top of her head is bare. Truly, WTH...? That's ok though, because baby needed a new pair of shoes, I mean WIG and I knew that going in - and planned accordingly.

*Mine has the plastic face, not the latex one. It is painted and that's good, because it will hold more paint with no further prepping. Not a big fan of the new-style tears, but what can you do....?

"Poseable arms," my ***. Her arms are are not poseable unless you tie them in place somehow... they seem to be made of a bundle of foam tubes. She also lacks distinct shoulders. this really ticks me off for some reason.... I knew she was probably not going to be able to hold any kind of serious prop weighing more than an ounce, but my expectation was confirmed - and I'm sad about it. Makes her MUCH less versatile.

*Her eyes are sound-activated... at least, they allegedly are. It has to be one LOUD sound, or you can set her off by rapping her on the chest with a fingernail. BOOOOO, HIIISSSSSSSSS I hate this. Because when lit up, the eyes ARE pretty cool. Ghosts should not need to be bonked on the chest to scare you, though.

*Her dress is quite nice, with plenty of drape along the ground. Very ghosty.

*That wig and creepy-cloth veil are glued on her head like iron, baby. Know it. Its like they're welded on! Oh well, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

*Stand is solid, holds her well.

Right out of the box, she was an imposing presence and had a more stern demeanor than I expected. She's actually.... pretty creepy.

Since her name is VENETIAN Victoria, I decided to run with that. She should actually look Venetian. Like something you'd see coming out of a crowded masked ball, drifting across a medieval plaza, a beautiful woman with her mask trailing from one hand. She catches your eye, drunk and merry as you are.... you turn your head to view this beauty more clearly, and her eyes flash red at you. Then she melts into the fog as your blood turns to ice.

Yeah. Venice. Pix will follow shortly.

When you say you have the plastic-faced version, does that mean they made her in two different variations?

Yes, they did. This was because the original latex face had a nose which tended to arrive smushed flat. This tendecy was not helped by GR's shipping Vicky FACE DOWN. Sheesh! You'd think they'd know better...

I can already see that Im not going to be happy until I get an actual mannequin [with a for-really-real upper body] and replicate Vicky in a more permanent fashion.. but until I do, I will make do. Pix really are following, bear with me.

These pix are far from optimal, but will give you an idea.

I merely modified her facial makeup somewhat... and added a mask. A Venetian needs a mask, don't you think?

She''ll have black ribbon mask-ties; I thought I had enough black ribbon to circle the world twice, but evidently Im out at the moment! *annoyance*

My husband commented on how real she looked, then said "You're not going to leave her out here, are you?! Someone will steal her!" Heck no

Her wig is from Costume Craze and is called Grey Angel, I think.

I was going to pull up her current hair and replace it; she does actually have hair on the back of her head, but then I decided to see how well the wig fit. Voila'! I think I may just glue it in place and leave it! Really pleased with it so far. I have more creepy-cloth to make another veil with.... but that hides her hair, and I don't think I like that.

I wanted to have her holding this lantern, but that was a fond wish that didn't happen: Lantern from Target, 3-4 years ago
