I can't find the original thread here, but I saw this video a while back and decided to try building one of these. The hardest part was finding a suitable fan blade. This is an 8 inch 6 blade condensor fan. I bought a lot of 5 of them on Ebay. You can find the little Rubbermaid cups at Wal Mart.
This is an easy 10 minute project. It works very well. It's easy to use, the webs look great, and they hold up very well. I ended up getting a quart of rubber cement at Joann's for $4 and some change using a coupon. The rubber cement goes a LONG way. I think this is a great alternative for anyone looking to make some good looking webs without using a compressor.

BRILLIANT!!!!! In my opinion, this is much better than any webcaster I've seen. Will be making one of these next year (or maybe next week if I can find some time)

I've only ever used a friend's web gun that was home made. Was kind of hard to get the hang of using. This is pretty easy It's great for doing smaller areas or detailing a prop. I think it is a great alternative. Esp for anyone on a budget or somebody that doesn't have a compressor.

This is awesome. I've tried webcaster and even built my own based on Scary Terry's design, but this is much better.

One word of caution that they fail to mention in that video, Rubber Cement is very flammable ! So be careful and keep it away from any open flames. I did try lighting some of the dried webbing and it will burn. It extinquishes almost immediately, but it still burns.

I built one of these myself a couple of weeks ago and it turned out great. I highly suggest it!

Where did everyone find their fan blade? I'm having trouble finding one in stores... unless I just buy one online...

We use them at work so we buy them in bulk online. But you can usually find them at your local auto parts store.

I couldn't find one locally either. I got mine on Ebay. It is a condensor fan. 8 inch diameter, 6 blades.I am not sure what pitch mine are, but they are pretty aggresive.
