A few months ago, I bought some crayola air-dry clay and attempted my first-ever sculpting project. I learned a lot during that first sculpt, especially the lesson, "do not use crayola air-dry clay," because when it dries, it shrinks a lot and results in many cracks.
This is my new, second attempt at sculpting. This time, I used DAS clay, which is a much better product and acts just like classic oil-based clay.
Anyway, this is my second attempt at sculpting, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. She's red right now because I used the red DAS clay. I will be painting her for skin tone and additional detail so she doesn't look like a Sioux elder.
I'd like to shout out to Mr_Chicken for providing a link on sculpting and makeup tips and techniques, it really helped with the texturing.

Wow, I can't believe you've levelled up again! It's amazing to watch how quickly you learn. And it's reassuring to know that even pros like yourself still have room to grow.
I think this looks amazing and while your first (short-lived) sculpt was great, this is definitely at another level. And thanks to Mr. Chicken for the link as well - I think my brain is exploding.
Edit: Went back and took another look at your first witch - even better than I remembered. Glad you managed to patch her up.

btw...what are you going to put her on?? do you have a witch armature or something?? Also, how does the clay hold up to the elements? Is this something that you will have to keep covered or can it tolerate the washington weather?

I have build an armature for the witch, so the head slips on and then I'll dress her up.

I don't know how this clay holds up to Washington weather yet because this is my first time using the stuff. My plan is to seal the clay with a flat spray, then paint the face, then seal it again. I'll see how it does overnight, and if I'm lucky, the head may stay out for two weeks straight. I don't want to leave it out permanently.

Very nice! For a first timer, I can't imagine what you will create after you have done a few more sculpts. I want to see more of your work! You definately have an eye for detail. Love this!
