I just bought a "fully functioning" out of the box Zultan Fortuneteller prop off ebay. The shipping box was in pretty poor shape when it arrived, barely being held together by a little bit of tape and the prop was wrapped in the barest amount of bubble wrap which didn't do much to protect it from being banged around inside a box that was too big for it without extra packaging to keep it stationary. One leg broke off leaving two pegs in the main part of it that I had to pry out and will have to try glueing back on the leg. There are scratches on the plastic windows that were not described in auction. The bottom of the curtains are stuck in a strange hanging position and they don't move the way I had seen in videos of this prop. I took the lid off of him and noticed a wire at the top was cut and it doesn't look like the mechanics are all there and in order to make the curtains draw back. In researching and watching more closely at videos of this prop, I noticed that some of the videos show the curtains moving, while another did not. I can't tell if the side curtains are supposed to move.
I purchased this for $130 +$30 for shipping, and the seller ended up paying $60 for shipping. I have contacted the seller with my complaints and am waiting for an answer, but didn't give any suggested resolution. I don't want to send him back. He was hard to win and I had lost several auctions before wining this one (and I want him for my party on the 29th), but I don't feel it's the $160 prop that was advertised.
So my questions are these: Does anyone know if Gemmy made two versions of this prop, one with moving curtains and one without? Are the side curtains supposed to move too? Any advice on a resolution to suggest with the seller? What would you do? Any one have any experience fixing these props and opening them up? I have no idea what the mechanics are supposed to look like!
