Just wanted to give the haunters out there a mistake I made. I sculpted out of pink foam a mummy. I then took cheese cloth material and soaked it in coffee, dried it, cut it into strips then took a flour and water mix to stick it to the pink foam like paper mache.

The end result looked awesome and it was a hit. After Halloween I stowed it in my detached garage. Next year when i pulled it out for Halloween, the whole prop up to its face was eaten by mice at first I was mad but then laughed because what I made was a 6 foot coffee cake.

I never had a chance to build its sarcophagus and I never rebuilt the mummy. lesson learned.

Wow, thanks for the true story and lesson to be learned. Terrific carving and finishing job there. Sorry the mummy's a gonner! But glad you got a photograph at least. Can't tell you how many times I've made a cool cake or worked on a prop or set up and never took a pic and later regretted it. Bet those mice were up all night.

Looked good! I did one with a plaster shell, open back form. Did the coffee soak, but then ran wrapping strips through mask latex and did the wrap. Came out very durable. Mice will still nibble at latex, but usually not for long. (Pics in my album).
