I have a doghouse that my neighbor gave me and none of my 9 dogs will use it so I woke up thinking about making it a part of my haunt. I am not mechanically inclined so I can't really make it do anything but I thought about blacking out the doorway and just have eveil gold eyes stareing out of it with growl sounds coming from it and a thick chain attached to the dog house. Maybe put a beware sign on it without explaining what to beware of...And should I put this by the entrace, by the witches shack or maybe on my front porch?? Thanks for all your help. Ya'll are the greatest!!!

This would be fun and scary - You can totally do this without being a mechanical whiz... Just get a piece of plywood that will fit inside the opening of the doghouse, cut out openings shaped like the eyes to allow light to shine through and put some colored gel (yellow, red, whatever) over that, and put a small light (nothing that would get too hot in an enclosed box - maybe a kid's night light plugged into an extension cord - would have to be a dark colored cord, tho) with a CD player or cheap Mp3 player and some cheapy speakers and the growling sounds on a loop... I love the idea of a of a thick chain leading into the dog house, but you also could do a chain with a broken collar laying out towards the viewing area... like the dog is just waiting in his house for someone to come along.
You could put up signs about "Beware, attack demon dog" or the like... it could be really nifty!

You could use some of those hedge eyes they are under $5.00 they blink off and on inside of the house. See if you could find a VERY LARGE Dog bone or leg part to put just outside of the dog house door. Take a beware of dog sign and make it look like a creature TOOK A BITE OUT OF IT. (BEWARE OF (TEETH MARKS))

Oh yeah, I love that idea! It's great you should totally do it! And the addition of one of those huge dog bones would be perfect. I think technically it could be really easy to do, just like Frankie's girl said.
Don't forget to post pics when you're done!

I would put it on the ground by the steps to the porch. They have to get past it to get the candy. LOL

I think it may have more impact if it was facing your house so that the ToTs see it as they are trying to leave.
Maybe near the street, at the end of the drive, so they must walk past it to get out.

I did something similar awhile back. I had a pair of legs laying in the entrance, looking like the dog had pulled someone in. A kicking leg mechanism would look cool too.

Ha, I had a prop like this, which led to my user name choice! I used a black scrim across the doghouse entrance so you couldn't see inside of it. Then I had a couple 10mm diameter LED's mounted on a black foamboard inside the doghouse that attached to a wall wart (plug-in DC power regulator) that plugged into a motion detector floodlight kit from Wallmart. So when someone got near, the glowing red LEDs inside the doghouse would switch on. I had this alongside the walkway up to the house. A large wooden stake driven into the yard had a large plastic chain running from it into the doghouse, with enough slack to make it appear that whatever was inside could easily reach a person walking by. A skull and a femur bone just outside the doghouse completed the look. Later I learned one boy wouldn't walk on our side of the street because of that prop.
