So I made a spider web this year out of a nylon/polyester blend rope. Would like to have the whole thing glow bright blue/white under blacklight. I tried washing it with a detergent that glows under blacklight but the effect is too weak. Any ideas of chemicals or otherwise that might achieve the effect ?

Soak it is RIT overnight then hang it up to air dry it. I used it for my Flying Crank Ghost and it still glows after 6 years of use.

The problem isn't what you're using, its that the polyester rope can't absorb it. You could try this - I've used diluted white glue in spray bottles to stiffen fabrics and prop hair (the cheap poly stuff). Its invisible after drying and reasonably flexible because its so dilute. Try mixing the RIT or detergent with water and white glue and dipping or spraying it on a test piece of the rope. Let it dry and see if the effect improves. An alternative would be to use a UV-reactive spray paint that can stick to the rope.
