I haven't done DIDDLY SQUAT on my cemetery gates since last year. So last night, my partner in crime bounced on over, and we got hella motivated, hella late in the night. Best time for evil creativity! Nice and warm outside too, so we started back at it.
So the bases have their brick work carved and ready to paint. The "granite" base and cap stone need some shaving and smoothing of the glue lines. The pillars are as we left them, and we finally have an archway over the gates! Got pipes and wood for making the gates, and have a great idea for mounting hinges to the bases.
Current progress photos:
With the cauldrons on:
Then we add the archway, test cut to make sure we liked the height and size and proportions:
He's 6 feet tall, so for him to reach up that high, is a very large archway.
Next is making two castle towers with crenelations for the gargoyles to sit in. Probably add some very feint lights to underlight them. The cauldrons won't get any up there.

Spectacular!!!!
I didn't make him for you!... He carries the Charles Atlas seal of approval.
It's not easy having a good time! Even smiling makes my face ache!

My castle tower toppers, for my gargoyles to glare down from.
By the way, if anyone knows where they still sell these gargoyles, lemme know. I want at least another pair of them.

Yep, that's a Shopvac filter box. New filter still in there.

I think once I finish them, I'll make them removable, just for storage sake. Kinda like, assemble the towers, then put the hats on.

I love the added dimension the blue foam cut outs will add. Way cooler than just the gargoyle sitting on top.
This looks fantastic and I can't wait to see it all done. Good work!

Gimme ideas for something to stick to the sides of the top pillars. Something simple to put in the recessed sections on the sides over where the fences will stretch out.

Those are great! I love them! I wish I could do something like that for this year. Unfortunately, time and money are too short to accomplish that sort of thing for me this year. Maybe next year though. Hehehe Great job! Sorry, can't think of anything to put into the recessed sides, other than maybe just a basic shape like a cross or one of those crosses with the circle around it, that kind of thing.
Can't wait to seem them all finished!Mordessa

The only thing I can think of is a bunch of skulls stacked up like in underground crypts, or maybe just a bunch of bones.
Or maybe thick (fake) chains embedded in... Something with texture, right?
Oh here's a thought..stick on a bunch of those flattened glass marbles (u know, the kind that people put in vases?) and then monster mud it or somehow cover it with stucco-type stuff. I don't know...sorry if these are lame....
