So I'm a chef, and I quite occasionally run into all kinds of bones, like you do in a kitchen.
And it strikes me today, while I'm dismantling several chickens that while I've been building
all kinds of things for this year, I've got no real bones anywhere, but dozens go through my hands
on a weekly basis.
But they need to be cleaned, as opposed to covered in rotting meaty bits...
So does anyone here have experience doing so?
And I mean some way that you can do in a normal home with access to normal supplies?
I found a website of a bone collecting blogger in Ireland who uses a week long soak in
hydrogen peroxide as a cleaner/whitener. But I think he's using 30%, and so far all I've found
is 3%. Though I've got some soaking now, I have no idea if the far reduced strength will work or not.
So, any bone advice? Cause its not like I won't have more bones soon enough.

I would just boil them off and then bleach them in the sun.

Same here. Boil them clean. 30% HP can be found online or in cosmetic supply shops like Sally's though.

We had to do a science project in high school where we had to assemble a skeleton, I think we used boiled them in Red Devil Lye to get the goo off the bones.

I de-meated bones before using clorox bleach and water

Put the bones in the grill, put it on high, let it burn all the meat and gristle off them, then soak two days in Clorox bleach.

There was an episode regarding this topic on "Dirty Jobs" not sure if you can track it down, but it may give you some good ideas.

The Dirty Jobs taxidermist episode was "too disturbing" to be aired, and the Skulls Unlimited one was heavily edited. You can find both of them on YouTube I believe. Beetles are the go-to for removing all the meat from bones for proper cleaning but I highly doubt you'll be able to get those (unless you have a local taxidermist)! Biz enzymatic cleaner was also used to completely de-meat bones but I can't imagine this would smell all that great leaving it in a bucket for a week.

Get yourself some maggots to eat the dead or rotten meat. Or ants. Something to that effect. Give em a week and those bones'll be picked cleaned.
