I spotted a plastic cauldron that was perfectly shaped for a prop I want: a punch bowl as part of a display. Picked it up and brought it home before realizing that, not being marketed as a punch bowl, it may not actually be safe to use as such. The only markings anywhere on it are the manufacturer (Union Products Inc in Leominster MA, apparently no longer open for business) and the product number. Gotta love mystery plastic. Anyone got any ideas how I could go about finding out if this thing will be safe to use?

No ideas about how to find out if it is safe, but what about ways to make is safe just in case? The obvious one is to put a smaller bowl inside, but also have you seen the crock pot liners? I love these in my crock pot and they are pretty big. You might could line your cauldron with one of those if its not too large.
