Hello, i live in the Bay Area so it gets windy each Halloween night. Last year i thought i had the situation under control with simple small wooden sticks (kitchen sticks) but that proved to fail and even worse destroy my tombstones! I need to buy strong sticks so my tombstones can stay in place. (Thankfully last year i had bricks to hold them up aha). 2) Also i want to put up wooden boards to cover the windows of my house but without damaging anything is there anyway to board up the windows of my home easily?

We've had that problem in the past, so this year I'm going to try glueing cut PVC pipe to the back with Liquid Nails and then slipping that over rebar stakes driven into the ground. This thread has a lot of great ideas as well. Good luck!

    Deathtemple,

I used the same method last year of attaching PVC pipes to the back of the tombstones with liquid nails. Then drove rebar into the ground and slid the PVC over the rebar. They held up great and when I took them out this year to set them up, the liquid nails was still holding strong. One cool plus is that there is a little bit of play between the rebar and the PVC so the tombstones rock back and forth in the wind a little making it look like something is trying to get out.

Regarding the boarded up windows, I made frames out of 1x4 lumber and then attached boards from old pallets to the frame. This way I only need to attach the frame to the frame of the window in a couple spots.

One thing to keep in mind when boarding up the windows is the safety factor. Some of the widows I have boarded up are my kids upstairs bedroom windows. I have attached the frames so they will push off in case of an emergency such as a fire.

    Good luck and Happy Haunting!!

I bought a tombstone years ago that was about 3 inches thick. The manufacturer of it had drilled 6 inch long holes in the bottom and placed 1/2 inch PVC inside as a sleeve. It didnt come with any stakes or spikes but sticking rebar into the ground and sliding it on seems to work pretty well. if yours are thick enough you might try that.

i use wooden stakes, from lowes, and velcro, from walmart fabric dept., to velcro the stakes to the back of the stones

the velcro is the type that has the sticky backs

here's a pic, you might be able to make out the stakes in the back of the stones
