I bought the Jon Hyers DVD. Only paid $20, but I've seen them as high as $99.

I know it's too late to be much help for this year, but Halloween 2012 is rapidly approaching... :-)

I added a Pepper's Ghost to my home display this year, and spent LOTS of hours trying to come up with the right video. I'm far from an expert, but I tried something that worked for me and wanted to share it.

I found a few freebies online and even purchased one of the vidscenes clips, but none of them seemed quite right.

Then I had an epiphany. While there aren't that many videos online that would work for me, there are tons of images that will. So, I started grabbing images that looked like they might work. The best one for me was a picture of a severed head prop. I added the image as a clip in Windows Movie Maker, stretched it out on the timeline so it would play for 20 seconds or so, added a Warp effect, and made it fade in/out from black. Voilą!

Nothing too fancy, but it was just what I needed.

Here's the video of the effect as seen from outside. There are a few seconds of "behind the scenes" footage at the end that'll give you a rough idea of the setup.

You could also use photoshop to make modified versions of the original images, and add a fade effect between them for a different kind of effect. Here's one that I came up with:

It looks better on the computer than it did in the window, so I never used this one... but it does give you an idea of the kind of things you can do with this approach.

I've gotten a lot of great ideas and advice from this forum and wanted to do a little pay-back. I hope someone finds this helpful!
