For all the iron bar fences and metal shackles and anything that should be rusty.... get two different rust colored paints, and CORN FLAKES. Use vinyl gloves, mix the corn flakes with the rust paint. Start by painting an area that's supposed to be rusty, then crunch on the wet painty corn flakes, to get the oxidized, peeling away flakes and layers of iron. This guy said he used it to make fake rust on a car, so it looks like the layers of steel are getting crusty and weaker as the age works in and the rust goes deeper.
Gonna try this on my iron bars to my cemetery gates.
For reference, this is what he's trying to replicate. And after years of fixing and restoring hot rods and muscle cars, I think his technique is definitely on track!

I also heard somewhere that oats work. I use sand for a finer rust.

Jaybo has a great tutorial called "Rust It Up", he uses a concrete patch and instant oats (think it is on Haunt though). I used it last year and it was amazing. Also, with the wet Northwest weather this time of the year it withstood the moisture as well!
