Just completed the installation and video editing for my new fog wall for 2011. Using cues from others, I used an ultrasonic mister to create the fog and sandwiched it between 2 laminar air flows. The video is rear projected onto the fog.
The setup in inside a room created using the tubular frame of an old temporary storage building, covered with plywood and a large tarp. This helps stop the wind from affecting the fog, and makes it so that guests have to walk through the fog in order to transition from the lab room (in the garage) into the "Pirates Cove".
Let me know what you guys think.

Very very cool. Did it work right on the first try or did it take a lot of tinkering to get it to look just right?

Only a couple of minor adjustments were necessary.
1) I originally had both the air and fog being passed through a honeycomb made up of drinking straws - 2 sets for the air and one for the fog. I found the straws limited the fog flow and put enough back pressure that the fog came out of all the other openings it could find. I replaced the strip of straws with a strip of 1/2" pcv pipe sections - just for the fog flow.
2) In addition to the 4 blowers that create the "air sandwich", I also had a single fan used to push the fog from the main fog chamber (a storage bin filled with water and the ultrasonic mister) into the distribution chamber (between the 2 air chambers). This dramatically increased the amount of fog in the wall, which had 2 negative effects - first the fog was too thick to focus the video, second it started to fill the room with excess fog. I disconnected that fan and found that the suction created by the air blowers was just enough to pull the right amount of fog into the wall. You would think the more fog the better, but this is not the case here.
Other than that, the only tweaks are to the video content and projector settings.

Wonderful work. Do you have any daytime shots of the laminar system?

I saw this last year while in WDW in the Pirates of the Caribbean just before the drop, been thinking about doing this kind if affect myself but was wondering how to control the fog......hummmmmm good idea!

Thanks. No other pictures yet, but I'll try and take some this weekend.
No, I always forget to take pictures as I go. I will try to put together a how-to, but that probably won't happen until after Halloween, still got lots to do and so little time left!
Thanks, yes the Disney PotC ride was the inspiration.
