Ahoy all ye land lubbers! Crows Nest has been launch from port California.
Mast of 1" PVC Pipe
1 Apple basket from CostPlus (typically not for sale, but begged)
1 Parrot from the Spirit Store
1 Jolly Roger flag (eBay)
several zipties and a drill for some holes.
I was able to utilize a pre-existing weathervane which happened to work perfect.
Avast & Enjoy,
Chef

That's cool! I've never seen anything like that! That's so nice of you to give your neighbors the bird!

I like it! Be sure to spotlight the bird so he's nice and visible at night from the street; he adds a great touch.

Nice job! I made a crows nest this year as well and I'm struggling to find way to secure it and the mast to my roof. I have a tile roof that is a shaker style. Not sure how to mount it. We also get some hefty Santa Ana winds which has me worried as well. I would love to put it up soon and have it up til Halloween but with the winds I may only be able to put it up on Halloween night. The mast is from a cardboard tube that photography backgrounds come in. It's probably 3-4" diameter. Any ideas?
You can see pictures of the crows nest on my Facebook page linked in my Sig below.

jimmyzdc,
Well with the weird weather we've been having, I used an 8ft section of 1" PVC irrigation pipe. I has just enough flex to absorb some wind movement and it's waterproof. Thankfully I had a weathervane to help with installation. I too, have a shaker roof. Tricky to mount to, but if you have a peak you could make a base out of 2by4's to accept the PVC pipe. Your photos show your skill level is way above mine. I'm sure your figure out the mounting of it. Best of luck. I'm not a facebook person but I'd love to see photos of your progress.
Happy Haunting!
