I had great results hooking something very similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gemmy-Hallow...6#ht_500wt_922 up as my doorbell last year, but after halloween, the poor chap fell and broke off the cheap solder to the super cheap speaker. Any ideas on how to get his voice back? I could try resoldering, but the speaker is small and plastic, and i expect i will simply destroy the speaker.
Many thanks and i love all the great idea you guys give me.

Is the speaker surface mounted or wired in? Just resolder it. Its a very low wattage speaker so replacing it with something bigger won't help you any. Hope this helps!

depending on how handy you are, you could desolder the entire speaker, remove it and solder in a headphone connection. Once that is done you can hook up a pair of computer type speakers and hide them anywhere you choose. This will give you additional flexibility of volume and placement as well as being removable for storage. If you get a battery powered set they may even fit in the prop itself and there would be no need to run an additional wire for speaker power.
