Part of this years yard haunt is going to be demonic pumpkin patch coming to life. I have 3 creatures all made of vines and moss with pumpkins as heads. I wanted to light one of them from the inside with a green light. However I would really like to get a flickering light effect inside of him. Needless to say I have not had an easy time finding a flickering green light source, and at the same time I am limited by the flammability factor as he is built mostly of spanish moss and real ivy. If anyone has any ideas of a low cost means to light this guy up with out lighting him on fire the help would be appreciated. I will have a fog chiller supplying the pumpkin patch with a low blanket of fog, but I was also wondering if there was a way to create a green glow from under the fog.
Here is the guy I am wanting to light from the inside. He is built on a tomato cage so he is hollow, with access in the back. I do wish he looked better in pictures. He will be getting a bigger head as soon as I can find a larger fake pumpkin. I underestimated how big he was gonna be.

The lighted fog is an idea I really like. Perhaps a green rope light? On the lighted JOL, I've lit a number of them with C-7 light strings with a simple hole in the back of the JOL they are warmer than the LED sets, but I've never noticed that they we're hot enough that the JOL was getting hot. If you check my album from last year you'll see I had mine set around and on a pile of VERY dry straw with no issues. To get things to flicker I've had excellent luck with the flourescent bulb starter spliced into the power line.

If you can do without flicker, a CFL econo bulb is the way to go because it runs cool. You might find some christmas strings that'll twinkle on the shelves now too. Very cool prop!

2 posts in and he's already getting a big head!

I'm going to be experimenting with using LED tea lights with other colors and/or multiple LED bulbs for added brightness. Will let you know the results!

Build a flicker circuit:
(first one off the monster list, which has several, mostly similar designs) http://halloweenpropmaster.com/u-build-it3.htm
As for the heat, just use a little C7 bulb. Or several. I've never had one of them light anything up, and I deal with these materials all the time.Last edited by UnOrthodOx; 10-03-2011 at 12:56 PM.
