I'm making an adult-sized Sam Hain costume for the hubby, and I need to come up with the translucent orange sucker he carries (with the bite mark).

I know casting resin is probably the best, but would it be possible to do this using hot glue sticks and a basic mold and then trim out with an exacto? If so, where would I find orange glue sticks?
(oh, and bonus points if they are an actual store I can just go to instead of ordering online)

Do you mean Sam Hain as a play on the Celtic Samhain? And by orange sucker, like a lollypop? If so, why not just make the real thing with sugar, water and orange food coloring?

Why not just melt the sticks in a pot an use food coloring gel or liquid. In theory that would work. The pour into mold.

She's talking about the character "Sam" from the movie "Trick-or-Treat".

The only thing I can think of to use would be to melt the wax off some orange candles into a disc shaped mold??
I guess your hubby will be "Sam on Steroids".

oh, sorry Sam from the Trick r Treat movie like DaveintheGrave said:

    http://www.horror-movies.ca/albums/u...eat_poster.jpg

And the husband is just a hair under 6 feet, but he REALLY wanted to be Sam... so that's what I'm making.
A GIANT child/spirit of Halloween costume...

I think wax would be too fragile if he bumped it.
Glue sticks are probably what I'm going to go with if I can locate some orange ones, but I have some plexiglass as a backup I can try to cut (but cutting a circle is a pain!)

I carved my sucker out of 1/2" foam, brushed on a flat paint and then sprayed it orange so it would shine. I suppose a clear coat would make it even shinier. I made the face using a stencil.

    I found these!

Only problem is the minimum order is 5lbs at $55, plus shipping. Ouch!

BTW, I tried to mix orange glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint into the melted hot glue when I made my Sam. It didn't work to well. I ended up painting it after the I carved out the bite mark.
