1st I'd like to apologize if I'm in the wrong forum.
This is our once beautiful perfectly symmetrical round tree, now not because of a storm. The trunk was already weak because it had an old rubber support INSIDE it we didn't know about. It looks more like someone took a bite of a pear if you look at it from the side.

This would've been a decent backdrop to our WEDDING in our backyard. So we've considered chopping it down completely since it is ugly now. However, we're trying to creatively do something with it because our wedding is HALLOWEEN themed (everyone is is costume).

Any thoughts how to make it look more dead? I thought about trying to get rid of all the leaves, but it would be too difficulty to get to the top. What kind of decorations would accentuate it?

    Thank you

Drape what's left of the branches with swags or panels of black fabric?

Please don't cute down that tree! It will heal itself over! Drape it with fabric and add some orange lights. Will look lovely.

I don't suggest cutting down any tree. But, if you decide to get rid of it due to the damage, you could try girdling the tree. If you girdle it, you would be killing the tree. The process involves removing the bark or cutting around the entire base of the tree approximately 1 inch deep. Doing this cuts off the nutrient supply to the tree and it will slowly die over several weeks. Here are a couple links that might help.

Dont kill it ! we had a damaged tree and just trimmed it way down as far as we could with out actually cutting into the main trunk. The next year it grew back really full and nice and round ,looks great now.Go for hanging material or creepy cloth and lights....make it look like a swamp type tree.Or hang dollar store body parts or doll heads in it.
