Depends on the thickness. If you use the white stuff, you can get a pack of 6 sheets (4' by 1.5') for about $7 or $8. A single sheet of 1" pink foam will cost you about $11. The prices go up from there.

My local Lowe's has 2" thick 4ftx8ft boards for $28. You can get EASILY eight very large and impressive tombstones out of one sheet, and the between scraps can be used for making pedestal bases for them.

It depends on the area you live in. The pink or blue (different only because of the manufacturer) are more expensive than the beaded white stuff but work better because they cut and carve neater. One trick to save some money is to buy the thinnest sheets of blue/pink and glue them to a thicker sheet of white. Then you can carve the blue/pink without going all the way through to the white.

I found a bunch of scraps that were the perfect size for tombstones in a construction site dumpster on my way home from work. If you keep your eyes open it's amazing what you can get for free.
