Has anyone tried using an ipod w a repeating scream track that is conected to computer powered speakers ( no computer) and triggered by a motion detector. On trial runs it seems to work perfectly. Can anyone see or have experience w this type of setup?

I used this setup on my coffin build last year. I have power always on to the iPod which runs a loop of monster sounds. The computer speakers are powered on only when the motion senor is activated. Here is a video and a picture of the inside.

I've actually bought a handful of iPod knock offs and will be using them this year. My plan is a bit different than what you're asking about. I plan to have the sound fx split to the left and right stereo channels and then placing the speakers around the graveyard to give a more spacial feel, but I've used iPods/mp3 players in the past where I can keep them running all night and sync them to other props without issue, so I think you'll be able to do what you've described without any problems.

Other than using the IPod ( i use mp3, old dedicated laptop & cd players ) with the rest of the set up as you described just fine & works for me. I would put a small tube or such around sensor to keep area of triggering eye tight & keep from false triggers too soon.......
