Last year I got boxes from my local pharmacy that contain their rx vials. The are very sturdy. I opened the box lid, and slid it into another and kept doing this until the height I wanted. I sprayed them black like you did. Then I took grey spray paint the kind that sprays on like stone...and overlayed that on top. Before I closed the boxes up on top, I threw in some heavy rocks, and thats how they stayed in place. Also, places like CVS and Walgreens often set up big displays for makeup. These displays come in very tall and heavy duty cardboxes that look exactly like cemetery pillars. Just some tips for everyone that does some props on the cheap.......

Very nice for the cheap end! I love me some cardborad, most of my props are made out of it. ^_^ my friends all support my paper mache'ing and save me the biggest boxes they can get ahold of! I love your cemetery gate piece! Its awsome. keep up the good work!
Evil needs candy too!

Thanks MatrixMom for the tip on the make-up display....I have been looking for something like that. Looks like I'm goin' to the drugstore tonight!
Cardboard is my friend Barbwire! Last year we made an entire castle maze for some toddlers using some big cardboard boxes from my friends workplace. I may have a pic somewhere. And thanks for the compliment on the gate!

Here is a photo of the cardboard maze we did in 2010 for the little kids that would not go through our haunted house

Thanks for these great ideas! So do you just go into a pharmacy/drug store and ask for old boxes or display stands, and they just give them to you?
Another question, is there any way to weather-proof the cardboard boxes so they don't melt or sag in damper weather?
Thanks again for sharing - I can't wait to get started!
