I also did a 3axis kit from triaxialskulllabs.com. What was your impression of the kit?

Also, I went the VSA route. How did you like vixen? Which controller did you use?

    Great work!

I thought for the price (being the cheapest on the net) it was worth it to buy from Triaxial, plus i did some mods of my own.
Vixen wasn't bad once you get in to it. I use the Minissc because I used the SSC32 controller. I used wave for the jaw because i have a download of Vincents vocals.
For the tilt, nod and rotate I used basic ramp patterns. Each servo besides the jaw took about 2 hours to program. I tried the skull program but it didn't work for me.

No doubt on the price, although I think for anyone who plans on using a skull for more than just a home haunt, should not use this kit. (Without serious modifications) I also had modified the connecting arms to keep them from bending during complex movements.

I won't complain about the constuction due to the price, but its a case of you get what you pay for I guess. I will post a video of my skull eventually; still messing around with the routine.

VSA is expensive, but it is a great program; totally worth the money.

I haven't seen Triaxial.com's kits before and their site is pretty much shut down right now. I like the motion of your prop, you did a nice job. Two hours programming each servo seems like a long time but then I'm totally used to VSA and we use TrackSkull for programming the head motion and for jaw motion where VSA's wavemotion analysis doesn't work so well like voices singing over music.

It's nice to see people using less expensive alternatives to VSA. As these programs become as feature laden as VSA is, it's likely to drive the cost of VSA down. We have so many servos running in different props (so far we are using 166 tracks in VSA) that it is just worth it to me to use VSA and TrackSkull. We programmed all 10 of our skulls and bbabe's animated raven using TrackSkull. It would be very cool if Vixen could import TrackSkull files or if TrackSkull were able to export recorded motion files that Vixen recognized. I can't imagine how long it would have taken me to program all of our servos if I had to do them one at a time, especially when you consider that our routines run just over 9 minutes each.

I completely agree with you and I too had to modify the connecting arms. Vsa is expensive but totally worth it. I just wanted to try and use the vixen program because it already controls my Christmas lights. Now I can control props and lights for Halloween. I am very happy it worked.

There is a skull controller similar to TrackSkull for Vixen which was created by a user (link below) but I couldn't get it to work 100% do to the (servo layout) design of my skull.

After this years Halloween I will build a few skulls of my own and really get in to the Vixen program.
