    I have a mister for cauldrons that needs a 24v adapter but havent been able to find one. I found a 30v adapter for a computer part of some kind and thought I could splice the wires. However, I dont know if a 30 V would blow the mister mechanism, its an extra 5v of juice. Any help in figuring this out would be so appreciated, I want to install my mister in a prop Im building soon and want this resolved asap, lol. thanks!

    You would need to know the amperage needed by the mister (may be on it somewhere) and then get a resistor to reduce the voltage.

    Parts Express might have 24v adapters but their website has been very crashy lately.

    How about this:

    Like Xane said, you need to know the amperage, but I'm guessing this should work, unless your mister is super heavy duty.

    Nepboard, I wasnt asking where to buy, I actually got the 30V at Goodwill, lol. Anyway, Xane and Pumpkin, Im not sure where to see amps- on the adapters for my other 2 misters it says Output 24V AC 1000mA (amps?). Would that mean 1000 amps? Pumpkin, for the price on that unit you linked to I could just buy a new mister, Im trying to just avoid that and thats why I asked about the 30V. I suppose tomorrow I will try to call a CS for a mister in general and see about using a 30v and more info on amps required since Im unsure how to see that info.

    1000mA is 1000 milli-amps, or 1 amp. NOT 1000 amps! Look up the metric system:

    Ooops, sorry. Yes, 1000 milli-amps is 1 amp.

    I have 2 identical misters but one came without the adapter, the one Im basing my numbers on has the following info on it;

    Input- 120V AC 60Hz 34W
    Output- 24V AC 1000mA class 2 transformer

    the one I want to splice for the second mister says this on it;

    Input- 120V 60Hz 180mA 23VA
    Output- 30V --- 400mA 12W

    Level 3 transformer

    My third mister that came with an adapter says its a level 3 adapter and has 1200mA on it but I think that was needed because it has more LED colors verses just the one color the other 2 produces.

    From what you guys told me, it looks like the amps are lower on the level 3 transformer I want to use even though the voltage is higher. Will this work?

    If it was 800 I'd say it might work, but at 400 it won't. Either way, you want to make sure you have a regulated adapter - test it with a multimeter and make sure it actually outputs the right voltage. For instance, you 30v one might put out 38v if the load is too small. But since the load will be too high, it will burn out the adapter.

    Unfortunately large supplies like this can be expensive. Parts Express only has a $20 one that would work for it:

    Unless it's a big mister (for ponds, etc), it's the same price just to buy another one, unfortunately. Keep scouting thrift stores! Or check eBay, I don't use eBay but I see a few over there too.
