I was very much going to pass this year on decorating but my wife got me into it at the last minute.
I wasn't sure what theme I wanted to do but I ended up picking up a legit carnival tent on Craigslist for $50 and an idea was born. To be honest though, I didnt really want to do a carnival theme... but eh.. what the hell.
Looks like haunted carnival is the theme this year.
I picked up about 100 blow mold skulls at Marc's here in Ohio for $1.99 each. I probably won't use them all but a good 20 or so will be used to turn my garage into a knock 'em down shooting gallery called 'HEADHUNTER'. I plan to mount the heads on pvc and build a 3 tier rack to hold them. Kids will get a chance to knock over a skull using a pnuematic mini tennis ball launcher I plan to build.
A quick dirty paint, couple of 50 cent eyeballs and a $2 wig for the win.
If that's not enough I'm turning the front of the house into a broken down funhouse attraction, closed to the public but creepy and dilapidated nonetheless.
The clown facade alone is about 15 ft high and it will have a lighted sign above it saying FUNHOUSE built in the traditional carnival style with some C7 low wattage amber bulbs for an eerie glow. Letters are about 2.5 ft high.
I'm going to turn the rocking chair prop I made last year into a midget clown on a rocking chair, will make a few zombie clowns and carnival barker (hopefully animated).
Also picked up a giant 22 inch acrylic globe that I'm going to use with my giant hanging witch prop to make a Gypsy Giantess Fortune Teller. (She knows your fate but she won't tell.)
...and pretty much anything else I can think of between now and halloween.![]()

I did a clown theme last year and it was so much fun! I was surprised how scared people are of clowns...especially adults.

Cool! Be sure to get some creepy circus music. I hadn't heard the Gore Galore CD in a while but happened to listen to it the other day and thought it was great.
