I just picked up the Tekky Toy's Striking Snake prop that I have eyed for a few years now. I like the striking action on it but as has been discussed here on the forum it does have a somewhat loud motor noise when the tail is moving. Has anyone done any modifications to it?

Since it doesn't sound like a rattler really, I was thinking of maybe attaching something to the tail that would look like a rattlesnake's tail but had some beads inside that when the motor went off and it shook you'd really hear some rattling. Not sure what that something would be made of but figured it was worth asking here since the prop has been around for quite a number of years already.

Funny that the video for it sounds like a rattler tail!

Really? I thought it sounded like a rattler. I got the one from Walgreens a couple of years ago.
The only thing I did to mine was attach it to a homemade switch mat for triggering.

Don't know if i'll be able to post a video of it but I suspect the motor that kicks in to make the tale section shake after the snake has lunged, is something similar to those haunted hedge motors or the shaking chandelier prop motors. Shakes great but the noise from it is very detectible. I only played with it in the box at Target using the Try Me button and will see if I take it out and maybe put it on a more sound deadening surface if it improves. Given the sound I remember doubtful though. It was the only one in the store so I didn't have another one to compare it to.

I do remember someone a few years back who did a mine or cave haunt who had one in there to scare kids, which it did when it lunged, but recall hearing the motor noise on his prop too.

BTW the switch mat is a good suggestion for modifying it too.

Thanks for posting this. I missed out on the Walgreen one, I waffled and waited, then they were gone. I still have my mine/western haunt and this would be a great add in. I must chat with dave about the mat switch. I wonder if you could hook up an adapter to this?

Here's a pic of the prop with Target packaging. The lunging and the hissing sound is great on it.
