Thread: Affordable cobwebbing vs. quality - Dollar Tree? Walmart? Target? others?

If I want to do a lot of cobwebbing easily and on the cheap, whose brand is best / cheapest? I see $1 cobwebbing at Dollar Tree and $2-$3 packages of the stuff at Walmart and Target. What else is out there and what's good / not so good? $1 at Dollar Tree may be no bargain at all if it doesn't give a good effect or is difficult to work with.

All of the bagged webbing is a pain to work with. I haven't seen a difference between the more expensive stuff and the stuff at Dollar Tree. The more expensive packages might contain more webs.

I'm not sure that price matters but there are different textures sold. The one that I prefer spreads nicely. There is a clumping kind that is harder to work with. The kind I like looks more fuzzy in the bag versus stringy.

I actually use a cob web gun cheaper in the long run and the webs look awesome once you learn to use it.

I swear by the bagged webbing - the brand makes no difference, but it has to be the sort of scratchy acrylic stuff, and not the silky stuff. And you have to spend the time to make it look good. Lots of anchor points (either pushpins, nails, tree branches and corners... high, middle and low and all over - the webbing looks best when you stretch it 3-dimentionally and not just on a flat plane. If there are clumps, then you're not done.

I've used it for years and we've gotten it looking like spiders attacked out house.

I'll be the voice of dissension. The Dollar Tree webs I tried last year were horrible. They didn't stretch well and often separated from the rest of the bulk of the package. My favorite is the Walgreens Super Stretch Web. $3.99 regular price but goes on sale 2/$5 a couple of times each season and usually B1G1 for one cent at least once.

I'll have to keep my eye out for the Walgreens sales. Thanks for the heads up on them. I have never worked with any kind of webbing and bought one package of the rougher feeling webbing at (I believe) big lots for 3.99. Hopefully I can figure out how to use it without making a bloody mess. I'm thinking it might be a two person job so I'm waiting until my wife has a chance to help me.

Not all bags are created equal. The type we like is the rolled type, not the cotton-like material. I buy it at Walgreens. I used it for my outside webs last year and it worked great.


The key is to stretch it out like crazy and use lots of anchor points. I use landscape pins.
