Here's what I did with my $8 flicking candelabra and $10 Flying Ghost, both from Walgreens 2011. It's spinning more than normal because I gave it a little push before I started filming. Not incredible, but not too bad for $18.
Here's what it looks like with lights on:
Although this prop is sound-activated (you clap to start it), I've seen a hack out there on YouTube to bypass the microphone and make the motion continuous.

Great job and Great price!
Every now and then I have a quiet chat with the skeletons in my closet-just so they don't come looking for me on their own

Love it mikeerdas! I was always wondering if I should pik up a flying ghost n' hang something from it. this would be gr8 between the beams/posts on my porch. Good to kno it can be done.
Any idea how much the candelabra weighs? Concerned the extension cord i'd use would weigh it down too much.

The candleabra is battery operated i believe because i saw it turned on while in the store and it wasn't plugged in. I think the unplugged cord is meant to give the impression that the candles are haunted. At least that was my take. I did pick up the prop while in the store and it was very light weight and kind of cheap which is why I passed on it but for this effect will go and pick one up. Should look cool if I can rig it to run across my second story window above our garage which can be seen from the street.

@Ghost of spookie, thanks soo much for the info. Appreciate it. That would be wonderful if it's battery operated! I didn't think of that. Good luck with your haunt!

This is so simple and yet looks so great!!! Thanks for the idea because I know I have that flying ghost in my basement and now I know what to do with it this year!

Thanks everyone! My scale says its weighs 6.6 ounces. Maybe it's 6.66 ounces but the scale only has accuracy to one decimal place. :-) It's battery operated so no extension cord. Don't know what type of batteries it takes.
Another idea I have is to add a styrofoam head (~$3 @ Sally's Beauty Suppy), some tulle or cheesecloth soaked in RIT whitener. While it wouldn't be as cool as a Flying Crank Ghost, it would look similar. Or I may use an oscillating fan for my quick 'n dirty FCG. I only build props if it's "dead simple" due to lack of ability.
People could also attach a lightweight skull. Or even multiple items. There is one clip on each end of the cord and you adjust that to get the distance you want. Finally, instead of left/right motion, you could have a "3D" effect where the item flies out to the TOTs and back. Lots of potential and so cheap! :-)
EDIT: It looks like there's a cord hanging from the candelabra, but that's just attached to a "Try Me" button. I'd cut it off but not sure if that would harm the lights. Maybe better just to tape it and tuck it beneath the base.

Great idea and it looks terrific! Looks like the one in the Haunted Mansion.
Most of the "Try Me" buttons have a small plug at the other end. You should be able to unplug it.
