So I work at an elementary school and we're trying to work out how to do a window projection in the library. I love the idea of hallowindow but it's probably too scary for little ones and the parents probably wouldn't like that too much. Anybody know of anything comparable, or even some short animations I could put in a playlist or something that aren't as scary as hallowindow?

    How about this?

Just download the media files, use dvdflick to convert them to vob files that can be read any dvd player

There are all silent movies so I'd have a boombox nearby playing some kids-halloween themed music

As to the screen for the window, get plain white vinyl shower curtains from walmart or wherever they are cheapest- not the opaque (they hotspot terribly). Affix them using tape and you're all set

It would be pretty easy to use still images and do a slideshow display. Spooy jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, cats, witches, houses, etc. Lots of slideshow programs have nice fades/dissolves and will let you mix video clips and set up a song playlist as well. Should be pretty easy to find kid friendly images and clips - I'm sure folks on the forum would be happy to oblige.

Here's another question, how dark does it need to be for rear projection to be visible? There'll be a window to the outside where we're thinking about putting it.

Also, those videos were AWESOME. Absolutely perfect. Thanks!

this thread has a lot of helpful info

Short answer is that it has to be pretty dark for most projectors or the projector has to be very bright. 2000 lumens is often given as a rule-of-thumb for doing a window projection at dusk.

I have a 2200, so that's not a huge problem, but front lighting will be a killer. We could use the window to my office instead, which is in the back of the library and we could turn the lights off in here and that might work pretty well.

fledge, must be white, not opaque or frost (will hotspot)

    but in white only

For some reason, there are more expensive now- $9 at walmart. When I bought them they were like $4 for a 70x70 panel.

As to viewing times, the darker it outside the better. Buy some curtains (you can always return them since your're just taping them to the window) now and experiment with showing anything during the late afternoon evening. The dusk times by Halloween should equal to being darker earlier so you can pretty much gauge when it will be effective.

Well thanks for all the suggestions but it doesn't look like it's gonna work out haha. Apparently the new principal is staunch anti-halloween so we won't be doing much of anything! It's a shame, I was excited.

That's too bad. Maybe you can find another outlet for your haunting creativity.
