Is there a way to wire a Spirit Halloween prop that is set up to be pad activated to wire up to a motion detector such as found in a floor light.

Reason: If I place it out in my graveyard it will be too far to be pad or even sound activated. Even if the prop has an internal motion detector it will be too far way to work.

Basically I want to wire a flood light motion detector to the fence and run a wire to the prop that could be 10 to 20feet away. Also I would like to be able to disconnect the prop so I can bring it in at the end of the night or if it rains.

I have an “Animated Rising Reaper With Pumpkin” from Spirit that I got last year and worked great with the footpad activator but I like to experiment. What I really would like is the “John Doe Life-sized Animated Prop” from Spirit and put that in the graveyard and to be activated we someone passes the fence.

I like to get into building my own animated props but not this year.

Oh yea I not an electrical engineer but I can follow direction but simpler the better for now.

    Thanks,
    Chris

A pad is just a dry contact switch, when you step on it it makes contact and triggers the prop. To use a motion detector you need it to trigger a dry contact switch, I personally would use a relay. The motion detector will power the relay and close the NO terminals. You can then run a length of wire from these terminals to your prop to trigger it.

So yes there is a way to do this.

    Thanks for answering Jack.

I’m just learning about this stuff so sorry if the next question seems stupid.

Is there a particular relay and where would I get it?

Since you're going to use a flood light motion sensor you're going to need a 120VAC relay.

I usually get mine from AllElectronics.

Since you're working with AC house current you need to be very careful.
