What a pain this project has been. Cutting the foam at the right angles was not easy. Need to finishing glueing, patching screw holes and of course the paint job which I am nervous about.

Looks awesome! I built one last year and it looks like you're using the same plans as I did. Really stands out in the graveyard and well worth the frustration. I found the cutting and gluing to be the biggest hassle, just trying to get it to look square.
Here's pic of mine (in the backround)

and one lit up at night

Looking forward to seeing yours finished.Last edited by jdubbya; 09-13-2011 at 06:09 AM.

I am thinking about carving our name on it too. I am nervous about carving and painting yet as I have not done any tombstones yet.

I cheated a bit on this one and used the pre-cut wooden letters/numbers you can get at A.C. Moore craft store. Use the larger ones so they stand out. I routed out a section on the front base panel, then just used liquid nails to adhere the letters in the recessed aread. Looks good. For painting. I gave it a coat of white latex primer, followed by two coats of gray Dry-Lok. Then I watered down some black latex (make it really runny) and started at the top just letting the black run down the sides. Gave it some nice streaking. Take some paper towels and blot it up where it pool on the top base section. You can keep adding black to make it as dark as you want. It was fun experimentin with it. Good luck!
