Is anyone using this effect in their haunt?

I have purchased one this year and am looking for input as to how haunters are using them.
I assume it is still open to debate about the safety of these devices (especially when used around tots).
Is their any new or definitive news in this regard?

I use a large laser unit used for night clubs. No issues so far. I place it up on my roof and use it to do a laser votex and liquid sky effect.
