I have almost finished this static prop of a zombie coming up from a drain/sewer.... This was inspired by the piece of styrofoam that is used for the grating. Just need to do the eyes and then paint the great stuff foam.

So, what color should I paint the foam. Was thinking of a fluorescent Green to look like toxic waste, but that doesn't cover so well (maybe a lime green undercoat first?) or a brownish color to resemble sewage (ewww!) ... maybe something else ? any thoughts or ideas welcomed!

Herman Secret, I so love the stuff that you make! It looks grate so far!!

How about a yellow and fluorescent green combo with tinges of brown/red shading? Maybe add some "sewage" floatsome in there as well. Don't think I spelled that correctly but know you know what I mean. Doesn't have to be brown either, I wonder if some creepy cloth strands painted a dark green with some gray might look gross as well. They could be falling over the edge of the bottom grate or hanging from the above one.

I would go with the yellows and florescent greens. If you could light it up from underneath with some led lights that would be cool like BeaconSamauri suggested. Would it be possible to hook up a fog machine using pvc to get some ground fog to ooze out???

+1 on this idea! Fog would look great. This is a really neat prop. We're doing a zombie theme this year as well and might be able to incorporate something like this. Well done!

Hi Herman Secret. That is a great idea for a prop. The above comments all sound good. I'd suggest letting the lighting where you intend to display it guide you. If in a more dark part of your haunt, the fluorescent green with the "hot coals" look mentioned by BeaconSamurai would make the prop stand out better and give a nice radioactive glow to it. You wouldn't want the green paint to be too heavy - or use transparent paint from Michaels intended for glass - otherwise your Christmas lights will have a difficult time glowing through it. I'm making that effect right now on a prop to simulate lava using red transparent paint and am using plain white Christmas lights to get the glow to the level I want.

If displayed in a better lighted part of your haunt, and especially if you don't have much of a toxic waste theme going on anyway, then the techniques Ghost of Spookie suggested (especially like the bit about the creepy cloth strands hanging from the grate) would probably be better suited. Either way you go, it looks good!

I'd go with sewage. Whatever you decide, that is gonna look great!
